No, keep the system off. I place the ball under the pool cover ffor winter and remove it in the spring. It works great

I used this last year and my pool was as clear as the day we closed it down. I’ve already ordered another one because they sell out fast! Just throw them in and cover it is all you do.
Used these last year when we closed our pool. Just opened and dropped them in our in ground pool. Opening this summer was much easier. Water was cleaner than it had been in past upon opening. Would definitely buy again.
